Fibromyalgia (FM) is one of the fastest growing diagnoses of the last decade. Dr. Savard has a vested interest in this population as it has affected people in her personal life. Fibromyalgia is often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and/or disregarded in our conventional medical system. Dr. Savard wants you to know, she understands you!
Dr. Savard has been incredibly fortunate to have worked on a specialty shift focusing on FM and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in her clinical year of medical school, with mentor Dr. Lousie McCrindle, ND, who has worked closely with one of the North American leaders in this area of specialty, Dr. Alison Bested, MD.
FM is a multifaceted, poorly understood syndrome. There are many theories as to what goes wrong with the normal function of the body. It is understood that FM is caused by complex genetic and environmental factors. NDs assess and support each patient through a holistic approach; involving your medical doctor, medical specialists, naturopathic physician and any other health care practitioners that become part of the healing team.
The human body possess an inherent ability to heal itself through the mechanisms of homeostasis – restoring balance in structure and function and adapting to environmental change.

Similar to FM, CFS is also poorly understood. There is believed to be a connection between the two as they share many of the same characteristic symptoms. In comparison between the two, CFS displays fatigue as the most predominant symptom while FM commonly has pain as the prevalent symptom. Both syndromes are looked at as psychological illnesses within the conventional medical system as the physiological mechanism that has caused the illness isn’t concrete or well comprehended.
Naturopathic Medicine can be a powerful tool when working with both FM and CFS as it provides a multitude of treatment arms to work with the whole person. As the complexity of the syndrome involves everything from chronic pain and debilitating fatigue to mental/emotional aspects, utilizing a whole body approach in treatment is imperative in gaining any positive success with these patients. Dr. Savard is committed to working hard for these patients who are struggling with this condition and reminds you that you are not alone and that there is hope!
